An executive study mission

Smart Hotel Operations

Hangzhou, China · 16–20 November 2026 · 5 days, 4 nights. For Malaysian hotel owner-operators. Presented by Maslow SA.

The premise

Your levy is sitting there. Use it to see how China's best hotels already run.

Three problems shape the Malaysian independent hotel today: commission to the major booking platforms eating the margin on every room night, a front and back office that run on disconnected manual process, and no real-time visibility into what the property is actually doing. This programme addresses each one directly — using China as the proof of concept, not as the product being sold.

Three training days

What you'll see, and what you can take home.

Each training day pairs classroom sessions with a site visit to an operation running the principle at scale.

Training day one · The Green Cloud showcase

What best-in-class hotel technology looks like

Green Cloud is not the product being sold on this mission — it is the proof of concept. Today shows what becomes possible when direct-to-guest marketing, self-service technology, real-time visibility, and smart F&B operations work together at scale.

Direct-to-consumer marketing

Full-chain digital marketing — social media plus a direct booking app, covering the guest journey from pre-stay to post-stay membership. Bookings flow straight into the property management system.

Guests book direct, so the hotel keeps the commission it would otherwise hand to the major booking platforms — and owns a real repeat-guest database instead of renting the same guest back each time.

Self check-in and smart access

Guest self-service check-in, plus face, QR, and card-based room and floor access with time-bound permissions. Handheld check-in for VIP arrivals anywhere on the property.

Run leaner through a labour shortage, and offer a safer arrival experience than a physical key and a queue.

In-stay guest services in one app

A single guest app covers every in-stay request — room service, laundry, housekeeping — each one logged and time-tracked.

A smaller service team covers more rooms, with fewer requests lost between a phone call and a notepad.

Live operations dashboard

One live dashboard showing revenue, occupancy, and risk flags in real time across every property.

Owners see problems the day they happen rather than in next month's spreadsheet — critical without a large back office.

iCater — restaurant and F&B operations

Digital restaurant operations: table and order management, kitchen prep tracking, and camera-based food recognition for automatic billing.

The in-house restaurant — often a loss centre for independents — can run profitably with a smaller, better-coordinated team.

Training day two · Inside Landison Hotel Group

How a 230-hotel group builds consistency

Zhejiang Landison Hotel Group, backed by Zhejiang Tourism Investment Group, operates one of China's largest hotel networks. The day is about the discipline behind the scale: real-time group visibility, engineered design consistency, vetted sourcing, and a construction consultancy arm that works with partners outside China.

Group command centre

A single command centre monitors every property live — bookings, occupancy, performance, by region.

Even a single property can borrow the mindset: real-time numbers beat gut-feel management, and this is what expansion beyond one hotel requires.

Showcase rooms — engineering brand unity

A dedicated showcase floor builds out every room tier and theme across all eight brands, so design is tested and approved before it reaches a property.

A clear room-tier strategy — rather than renovating whenever budget allows — drives repeat bookings and better reviews.

Materials and vendor ecosystem

A dedicated sourcing ecosystem covering uniforms, gym equipment, flooring, tiles, kitchen and food-handling equipment, compared side by side.

Direct exposure to vetted China suppliers and pricing — a real sourcing lead for a renovation or new build.

Construction consultancy and open collaboration

Landison also offers architectural planning, functional design, and hotel positioning reports, and is opening collaboration outside China.

A possible path beyond the study mission: consultancy or design partnership with a group that has already built 230+ hotels.

Training day three · Hangzhou Polytechnic

Where China trains its hospitality talent

Hangzhou Polytechnic's School of Tourism Management is an accredited hospitality training institute with a purpose-built hospitality wing and an Alibaba Digital Economy Industry College on the same campus. The centrepiece is hands-on: a Chinese tea ceremony workshop that exports directly into a Malaysian property.

A formal hospitality training pipeline

Mock hotel lounges, test kitchens, and training facilities where students train on functioning replicas before entering the industry.

A model for your own front-line staff: structured SOPs and mock-service drills instead of learning on shift.

The Chinese tea ceremony workshop

A hands-on session led by certified tea culture instructors — brewing technique, tasting, ritual, and presentation.

A complete, exportable guest experience: a signature tea ritual is a low-cost, high-impact differentiator against generic hotel amenities.

Smart baggage and locker systems

Self-service, app-linked lockers for guest baggage.

A simple retrofit for the early check-in and late check-out crunch every independent hotel faces.

Alibaba Digital Economy Industry College

A dedicated college on the same campus training students in e-commerce, livestream selling, and digital marketing.

Closes the loop back to day one — this is where the digital-first commerce talent behind direct booking is actually built.
